How to give GOOD critique :)

I think knowing how to give good critique is something that if your going to comment on somebodies work everybody should think about.

First and foremost. If somebody is posting something on the forum they have most likely put a lot of time into making this image. So if you go along and just write 'it's crap' not only might you upset the person but dent their confidence, esspecially if they are new.

The definition - Constructive criticism (often shortened to 'CC' or 'concrit') is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one. In collaborative work, this kind of criticism is often a valuable tool in raising and maintaining performance standards.


So here are some basic rules

1) Be polite!

I know it might sound stupid but you'd be suprized the amount of comments I see that are just plain rude and insulting [I'm talking about on DA as well as here]

2) Be positive!

Even if you think your doing a great deed telling them every little thing thats wrong with there peice and forgetting the positive your not doing them much good at all.

3) Balanced opinion

Make sure you balance out your critique with positive things. So the artist knows while they have made some mistakes, there are good points!

4) Write how they can improve it!

Ok so you've said you feel something looks wrong. If you can try to say how you think it can be improved. Just slating the peice isn't going to do much good. Helping them to improve will be much more appreciated.

5) Be specific!

State indivual things you like and dislike. This will be much more helpful than 'it's crap'.

5) No nit-picking

Pointing out lots of tiny little issues that are hardly a problem is not much help to anybody.

HOWEVER if you feel that there are only small issues feel free to mention them.

Just don't list millions of negitive points ok? XD

6) End up positive!

Ending on a postive note will make the reader end on a positive note. So while they would have taken in the critique, they won't feel de-moralised.
