My experience
I jumped into this market with my hands bound and my eyes covered. I have to say people can be rather mean when its not them on the short end of the stick. The most important thing I've learned at my time here is just to keep going. You really learn how to better yourself and those around you and this all rubs off on your project.
Introducing your product & you
This in one of the easiest yet lasting part of your project. A bad impression will haunt you till either there is success or you just give up. A good introduction should include LIMITED information relating to the client development and maybe some eye candy to keep the public happy.
Research
Its something you have to do, without it how would you learn from others mistakes? Learning about other projects and their success is actually pretty fun.
Thinking outside the box
I have to say from working with Kynto this has got to be one of the most interesting things I have ever done. We were literally shot down for even thinking of using JS for our client. However we have made several releases and had positive feedback, keep at your stuff!
Artwork
This is extremely important, don't think its alright to use other projects sprites to tests your projects as you never knew what you might be left behind. There is plenty of talent out there waiting to be scooped up into an interesting project.
Detail
Detail is very important in any project especially an mmoc. Everything from the artwork to your news articles.
No BS
Don't tell your public what they want to hear... Give them it. No one likes getting fed rubbish, results are what we all want.
Grammar
If you can't type don't post, hire someone else to do it for you. -lesson learned-
Communication
Whether your team is two people or a hundred, communication is the glue that holds your project together.
Have fun
If you're not having any fun you will eventually get bored of the project and leave.
Thanks for reading
My experience...
the most important part: communication. as soon as thats broken down you've lost your MMOCC.

All of this is as true as can be.
As co-founder of Kynto, I struggled with all this al well...
I must say, I'm STILL struggling with my English sometimes.
But I hate people simply putting in their signs "Excuse me for my english im dutch" xD
