Updates 4/24/08: Also show in post below
After discussing the game only with several of my artistic friends, I came across ideas, that they have suggests I should implement. Those ideas included new obstacles, helps and aids such as various pipelines, ability to gain life via falling bottles that have dropped from bricks and Time wasters for an added challenge; such as indestructible bricks and etc. I wont give out much about the new ideas but I think they'd be a splendid addition to the game-play and I thank my friend Steven for concept art of how the levels would look with them included. Thats all for now but I'll be sure to get back to you with my first set of graphics for the game (which are unfortunately created
in MS Paint but will be then made into Flash once I get my own computer up and working. Before I leave though I think it's fair to tell you how much work I've got in so far. I have already made the pipeline graphics today and the brick & balls. I am yet to complete several other graphics needed to form a complete Brick-Break Twisted Experience but enjoy!
Graphics That Cannot be Produced Myself: I cannot seem to make the graphics for the eater in paint, well at least to my liking because MS Paint doesn't really allow me to do the things I want. So if someone could take a little bit of their time to draw the Eater anyway them visualize the creature to be. However, I think I should say that the Eater is somewhat of a huge eye, sharp teeth snake that slithers around the screen so I'd advise making him bumpy or with a curvy figure.
I'm sure most of you all have heard about a somewhat popular game known as Brick-Break. That said, I've decided to take up with a little project so that I can dab a bit in Flash and Actionscript. It is a little remake I call Brick-Break Twisted and I know what you may be thinking, "It's not an MMOCC" I understand that but I just thought I'd announce my project in hopes of getting some help from all you knowledgeable programmers and designers. Maybe if I gave you a little information about the game then you'd know exactly how to help me. To start off I'll say that it is, as you may have already guessed, 2D and since it's a remake, not entirely an original idea. In fact I've blended two different games together into one and just tweaked the game-play idea a bit.
Objective
The objective of the game is to break floating bricks which block a Large Ball, using a smaller one. Once the Larger ball has dropped and is heading downward, the player must use the, although smaller yet shall I say heavier, ball to knock it back in the air and guide it into it's designated hole. As the levels rise, the difficulty increases such as an accumulation of bricks and more Larger balls to send to their destination. The player will clearly be able to identify which hole the certain Larger ball(s) are to go in by color, and their hole will have a colored ring. However, various obstacles like time limits and something I call the "Eater" stands within the players reach to finishing each level. The Eater is a slithering 'whatyamacallit' that likes to appear and gnaw on what it sees. Unfortunately, it is rather discomforted in digesting anything else that is not your ball. So, in order to over come this little pest you must either quicken your pace to beat each level or waste time and kill it. As each level begins, the Eater may or may not appear, though more likely to appear and with each appearance it's speed quickens.
Now that was long enough! Though I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips or ideas on where to begin this little adventure. I am studying flash and all it's gizmos and gadgets as I begin the graphics but any feedback or ideas will suffice. Also before I actually start the game, I'd like to know if anyone has anything to say about it.
Brick-Break Twisted
Well i can't really help you as you are workin in flash/actionscript but i do however wish you luck and i'm looking forward to playing.
Sounds like an interesting concept. Good luck with the project.
Thank you, I believe with the right amount of dedication and continuous working I could make the self-declared release I am aiming for. However, I don't think that starting a debate by setting an official deadline for the project would be good for the game and plus it would stress me to work faster to make it. Though I have decided to see this project all the way and hopefully It will be to your liking . I'll try and update this thread with tons of news and progress so that you are aware.
Sounds pretty interesting, good luck
Sounds good, good luck with Brick-Break Twisted
You shoulda made it an MMOCC ...
Like... your in a random world, and instead of pokemon battle, you brick break battle xD whoever breaks the bricks first wins.

Interesting idea Kiro but I'm not aiming for an MMOCC at the moment. I don't think I'd be able to handle such a huge project by even changing the game into a small MMOCC type. Anyways before I go and ramble off too much I'd like to thank you all for your great feedback and I will be going ahead with the game.

Updates 4/28/08: A few days...and progress rises
Sorry, I am a bit late to bring your another update (I'm trying to keep my progress updates in a 2 or 3 day range) but I have quite a mouthful to announce. Once again, I say with the utmost apology that there are no previews and I think I told you why in my earlier post. Nevertheless, I am gradually progressing with the game. My friend Steven is really enjoying the concept of the game and has decided to help a little further so that he can see this game through as much as I do. So far, he's told me how much work he has done on the graphical side of the game and I have to compliment him on a work well done. He has created most of the needed art for the game and I'll quote, "I'll try to have most of your listed graphics done soon". He's even taken it upon himself to create graphics for menu art and other creative sprites. As I spread out all the details and form a complete, yet simple design document for the game, I'll be starting the programming in probably a less professional field and having a basic layout for my plans in MS Word or Notepad and such. I'm going to cut this update short all though there are far more things needed to be said. Hope you enjoyed this little update and I will be sure to finish off where I left off sometime early May. Ughh...I'll get my bud Steven to send me his already made graphics and upload some previews. Expect a little beta release sometime in June but no promises. Keep cool, game freaks!
