Interview with Liam - Fusion City Graphic Designer

Can you give us a brief introduction about who you are, the community you work for, and the position you have there?

Hello, I'm Liam, I've been designing professionaly for about 4 years now, and been with Fusion city for about 2 years. My position at Fusion City is Graphics Director.

Favorite food? Drinks? Songs? TV shows? Movies?

I find these sort of questions hard because there are so many great things. Also, favourite food really depends on how sober you are. If I was drunk, it would be a donna/chicken kebab, if sobaer, probably chicken korma. kronenbourg and coke (seperate) for drink. Songs, really can't answer, there are so many I just love, at the minute I guess I could say 13 steps to no where by Pantera, but also I've been listening to a lot of insigned goodness. Tv shows, Family Guy (old seasons), American Dad, Futurama, Lost, Prison Break. I dunno for movies, at the minute probably Advent Children.

What would you consider your accomplishments up to this point in time?

Well last night I was told I passed my Games Design course with flying colours, meaning I'ma certified games designer Anyways, I dunno really, I guess actually having a working BETA up and running is quite an accomplishment when you think how many MMOCC have started and failed. Also, knowing what is being created behind the scenes, I know there are many more accomplishments to come.

Any failures you'd like to mention?

I guess it would people who lied to us to get a job, they ended up not being able to do the work etc.

How did you find out about Fusion City and how did you get your position there?

Between 2-3 years ago I was asked if I would like to join Fusion City as a pixel artist, but soon this fell apart I lost contact etc. Then around the end of 2004
I came across fusion-city.net which was a fusion city forum. I posted in in about 2 weeks I was made Graphyics Director.

How did you get involved in pixel art?

Erm, if anyone knows waynerrrr, anyways, yeah, a long time ago I joined the TN9 forums, and at other forums, I was known as the graphics person, and here he was, so I challenged him and I made some horrible looking thing. Wayne actually supported me as my pixel art skills grew, I joined pixel forums, learnt new techniques etc and over 5 years I got to where I am today.

Are you a freelance designer or do you work for a company?

Freelance (a short answer :O)

How would you describe the Fusion City community?

Close, a lot of our members have been with us since the begining, and it is a close community with community events taking place, official or not.

Are there any other projects you're involved in? If so, which? Do you plan on getting involved in any others?

Apart from college stuff no, no other projects atm, although if I have time I will take on a client, usualy webdesign.

Many graphic designers these days seem to use deviantART as the portfolio to show off their work. Do you have one that's available to the public? Do your own website to host your portfolio?

I do have a deviantART account, you can find my gallery http://radioactivity.deviantart.com/gallery/ . I wouldn't say I use it as a portfolio though, more of a place to share my work. I've never got the time to actually make my site, but I swear to god, when I am free of everything, my site will be made.

Describe your typical workday schedule.

Well, wake up, goto college, come home, get on computer and start work for FC while also checking the forums, my email, logging into IRC etc.

Tell us something we don't already know about you.

hmm..my hair is long, reaches my nipplets.

If you were to add one feature to any MMOCC, what would it be? Why?

Being able to eat anyone that is annoying you would be fun, would be really anoying to animate though >_<

Any advice to those wanting to start their own virtual chat?

Expect problems, you really do need to do your research, don't hire your friends, unless your friends are trully tallented, plan everything.

Where do you see the MMOCC market in ten years?

I really don't know, I hope it isn't 3D as I think it takes away the feel and passion in the game.

Where do you see Fusion City in ten years?

Competing more competivly with Sulake.

What does the future hold for Mr. Liam?

What does the future hold for me. I couldn't tell you, I can tell you what I want in life though.
I want to take a gap year after college, come back goto university and get a degree in some sort of arty design subject, then work for a few companies, do some freelance stuff and then sdet up my own design studio with my own staff. Ofcourse I'd still be working with Fusion City through all this
