Interview with 3d - JabbaTown Designer

Can you give us a brief introduction about who you are, the community you work for, and the position you have there?

Ok, im Kyle also known as 3d throughout the Jabba Community. At Jabba i do alot of stuff, but i have the title of graphics designer as thats the area i usually help in and look after.

How did you find out about JabbaTown?

I had been good mates with Stuart with a while and he refound Jabba and that Zendo was recreating it. Stuart instantly wanted me to have a job there (understandable, im me =D) and i was given the job of Graphics Manager. This job would mean that i had to look for pixel artists and motivate them and tell them what to do.

What are your favorite foods? Movies? Television shows?

No question on food, mini eggs all the way. Whether to class these as a food or not, i dont know but i could eat them in stew form, with chips or as a cake, they are just too nice. My favourite movie must be *naughty* Football Factory. I find the story interesting and the way its performed is a great reflection of what it used to be like. My favourite television show has to be Lost. It has an interesting story line and ofcourse the very sexy Emilie de Ravin who plays Claire (the women with the baby) which just makes the show all that better.

What would you consider your accomplishments up to this point in time?

My greatest accomplishments? Well it has to be getting Jabba to where it is today. I used to recieve alot of stick that Jabba would never make it to BETA staging, well we sure proved them wrong. I have also made alot of new friends and have developed my pixel art to a higher level.

Any failures you'd like to mention?

Failures? Failure doesnt register in my dictionary! Im only joking. I believe that the BETA has been a bit of a disappointment with lack of updates but if you read the latest journal i produced (Jabba journal- weekly newsletter) it gives information into the new client and server building. This will impress you all.

How did you involved in pixel part?

I got involved in pixel art when i went onto Habbox.com which is a fansite of Habbo Hotel. I noticed that people were making their own stuff, and i was particulally impressed with the art of bortwein and exavior. I started sketching on paint but i never made anything good. Once i got involved in Jabba, i met Joe and my pixel art skills developed with his help and guidence, you could call him my mentor, but i'd never admit that.

Are you a freelance designer or do you work for a company?

Im more freelance than anything, but my loyalty to Jabba will always remain strong.

How would you describe the JabbaTown community?

I believe JabbaTown players are the most loyal of them all. They have all gone through Jabba's rough patches and ups and downs and have remained loyal to the chat. Their loyalty to the chat brings a tear to my eye at times (not really but you get me)

Are there any other projects you're involved in? If so, which? Do you plan on getting involved in any others?

I have made pixel art for other chats for bits of money that i needed. I'll post more information about this on MMOCC forum at a later date.

Describe your typical workday schedule.

Struggle to wake up out of bed, have a bowl of cereal. Go to school (exams are important people) and when i return i get to work on Jabba matters such as staff relations and pixel art. I then gladly go to bed and hope that all the world clocks stop for an extra 3 hours.

Any advice to those wanting to start their own virtual chat?

Commitment. If you dont keep at it then you'll never succeed. I also suggest (if under 1 you tell your parents about this. They will be interested in what you are up to and may give you some money towards the project. You will also need to assemble a good team. If low on cash, you will need to find coders and artists who will work for free or at a low price, you need to convince them that your project will be a success and that you will be able to pay them soon.

Where do you see the MMOCC market in ten years?

Booming and developing. MMOCC's will all improve in graphics and will be able to do so much more than what current ones can do. There will be market leaders and there will always be new ones entering the market.

Where do you see JabbaTown in ten years?

On top of the world and making millions . Nah im kidding, i have no idea what the future holds. I suppose it could become as popular as the ever famous HabboHotel or it could fail (it wont under my watch >) as many have done. We will have to wait and see.

What does the future hold for Mr. 3d?

Well i plan to carry on with MMOCC's through school and college and possibly university. If Jabba takes off and Zendo starts up offices then i may join him where he sets it up.
